Teddy, you're probably tiring of the lectures, but here's the "standard" one.
Don't bet $$ you can't afford to lose.
Most of the guys on this board are small-timers like you and me. (1 unit = $50 for me.) I've put $700 on a game before, but that was when I was WAY up and had that much to lose. We have all chased losses and found out the hard way that it does not pay off in the long run.
As for the pros, they literally have thousands of dollars to play with, but most are disciplined enough to bet only 1-2% of their bankroll on any 1 game. I know it's easy to get caught up in the hype of people dropping "dimes" on games, but remember that the dime players are either (a) way ahead, (b) way rich to begin with, or (c) liars who are putting $20 or nothing on the game but want to sound like bigshots.
We've all been in your shoes to some degree. I advise you to quit for the year and just watch the SB, bet a coke on the game with one of your buddies. You can prove to yourself that you can walk away. The SB is my last game of the season. I don't do NBA or CBB anymore, because there are games EVERY DAY and a guy who doesn't do this for a living needs to have a life.
GL, Teddy. Walk away now, the books will still be there when you're in a better position to get back into the game. Take some time to regroup mentally and financially. You will be glad you did.
